Community: A Life of Shared Grace
As Augustinians we share who we are and who we are becoming with each other and those to whom we minister. We walk together one in mind and heart on the way to God.
Our community life is manifest in our monthly Chapters and community days held in the Mid-Atlantic region and our Yearly Chapter and retreat in August. Some members meet more often and live together in small communities. We are open to God's Spirit in forming the shape and vision of our 21st Century Common Life.
Community is the entity in which individuals derive meaning. It is not so much characterized by shared space as it is by shared meanings.
"Brothers and sisters dwell together in unity not by their own strength but by God's grace like dew from heaven. This dew comes from Christ...desire this dew and be moistened by it."
St. Augustine, Commentary on Psalm 132

Ministry: Inclusive Grace and Mercy
The Augustinian tradition is bound to the prophetic vocation of prayer and apostolic service. Augustinians are known as the most contemplative of the active orders, and the most active of the contemplative orders.
"Each member is committed to building up the whole Body of Christ. We endeavor to minister, in charity and hospitality, to the mind, spirit, and body of all we serve. We strive to bring the love of God and to build community in every place in which we serve.
As an apostolic society, we endeavor to bring the Good News of inclusion to the marginalized, freedom to the oppressed, peace to victims of abuse, and justice and reconciliation to those in need.
Love...is the sign of our renewal as we know from the Lord's own words:
“I give you a new commandment - love one another.”
Augustine: Sermon 350A, 21
Our members may work in education, parish ministry, spiritual and retreat direction, campus ministry, chaplaincy, health care, social work and advocacy, or any position suited to their individual talents."
