+Praying with the Augustinians of the Immaculate Heart of Mary during Lent+

During the season of Lent, our tradition of prayer changes slightly as influenced by our Byzantine roots, and we add the Prayer of St. Ephraim to the very end of Vespers.

The Great Lenten Prayer of St. Ephraim:

O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despondency, lust for power and idle talk.
(Prostration)

But grant unto me, Thy servant, a spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love.
(Prostration)

Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see mine own faults and not to judge my brothers and sisters. For blessed art Thou unto ages of ages. Amen.
(Prostration)

O God, cleanse Thou me a sinner (12 times, with as many bows, and then again the whole prayer from the beginning throughout, and after that one great prostration)

A deepening of our prayer life is a tradition during Lent. Throughout the season of Lent, as a corporate sign of our oneness in mind and heart, each Friar has taken a day during the week and will spend time that day in adoration and prayer before the Blessed Sacrament reserved in our friaries.

Keeping Lent Holy from an Augustinian perspective: Prayer, Almsgiving, and Fasting

During each of the 40 days of Lent, the Augustinians of the Immaculate Heart of Mary will share some practical ways that we as Augustinians approach the traditional Lenten practices of almsgiving, fasting, and prayer on the Wall of our Facebook page.

We invite you to comment, ask questions, or add your own reflections

"Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was not with you. Created things kept me from you; yet if they had not been in you they would have not been at all. You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed your fragrance on me; I drew in breath and now I pant for you. I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for more. You touched me, and I burned for your peace." Confessions X
